Kanawha Cottage is completed.

The money for Kanawha Cottage was completed in 1940. This cottage features two dorm wings, a central meeting room and two private guest rooms. This spot was originally the site of the camp’s communal bathhouse, which was built in 1922 for the West Virginia University football team, who used the camp for summer training. Currently, each wing sleeps 20, totaling 40, comfortably. There are also two private rooms located on either side of the main entrance.

The Electric Energy Company building is built.

Originally called the Farm, Home and Electrification Building, it was built in 1940 as a resource center to teach farmers and their families ways to improve their lifestyle through the use of electricity. Construction was funded by West Virginia power companies and boasted a wide range of electrical appliances and farm machinery. The building was remodeled in 1986 by the Monongahela Power Company, known today as Mon Power. Today the building is used for meetings and classes and has two useable kitchens and furnished with electric appliances. There is one large room and two smaller rooms upstairs and another in the basement area. Another room is used by the Jackson’s Mill Weaving Guild.

The Southeastern Learning Center building is completed.

Built around 1940, at one time it housed a full-time specialist who conducted sewing classes and helped campers and visitors with sewing projects. This understandably led to it being known as the Sewing Center for many years. In the early 1960s, the building was remodeled and enlarged and became a multi-purpose building. Funding for redecorating and furnishings was provided by the Extension Homemakers Clubs of the southeastern counties of West Virginia. For a number of years the upper level of the Southeastern Learning Center was home to a 20-station computer lab and a general meeting space. Today, the computer lab is another meeting space and portable laptops are available, but a full computer lab is no longer maintained. The lower level houses offices, including the Friends of Jackson’s Mill Historic Archives (these are not public archives, but can sometimes be used for special research projects related to Jackson’s Mill or 4-H). Several projects have been completed during the last few years to make the upper level of the building more handicapped accessible, including the addition of an ADA compliant restroom, and work on the building entrance.
