1849

Cummins Jackson departed Jackson’s Mill for California.

At that time the Gold Rush was happening and he left to pursue great wealth in the gold fields. He died shortly after arriving in California. John White, Cummins’ older sister, Catherine’s husband, administered the property for many years, before acquiring it. In the following years, members of the Jackson family would dispute the ownership of the lands and various operations, hoping to get a greater share of the inheritance. The dispute would continue in various legal disputes for the better part of the next two decades.
