Cummins Jackson built a large house on the property.
Although Thomas left Jackson’s Mill for West Point and later fame, life continued at the property for the remaining family members. Accounts differ as to the exact year, sometime between 1843 and 1848, but in the years after Thomas's departure, Cummins completed a larger two-story house with two large wings on the rise overlooking the mills and the road. It seems unlikely that Thomas ever lived in this house, though he likely stayed in it during subsequent visits. This house replaced the log home which the Jacksons lived in for many decades. It seems likely that this home was completed prior to Cummins’ departure from the property.
